Passion isn’t reserved solely for the young

When I decide to write this article, I started searching for a suitable image to go with it, and I really struggled to find one.

The images of mature couples I found portrayed them as friends, cosy, risqué images of them holding hands, but just being friendly, almost like brother and sister. Does that mean the general public believe that sex and passion are reserved for the young?

I find that quite scary in a way because I believe that just like a fine wine matures with age, so does sex in a relationship. You have learned the things that your partner enjoys and if you have been in a relationship for a while you should feel more comfortable with your own body and that of your partner. So any embarrassment will have gone, and you will be able to talk freely with each other………….But hang on – is that true?

Actually, it’s not my experience from talking with couples, even those in their 30’s and 40’s. It would seem the passion has certainly left the bedroom, to be replaced with comfy night attire and a laptop or iPad.

If that is the case, then it’s no wonder that the media portray mature couples in the way they do.

Or is it that society sees mature couples enjoying sex as distasteful? Are we all so prudish and stiff upper lip that we find it abhorrent to even think about?

Yet it’s ok to watch porn freely on the internet and see the goriest images and scenes of murder on social media.

What are your thoughts? I would love to hear them.
